JM Beriani House @ SS 18 Subang Jaya

Wednesday, December 13, 2006

So far, I have been posting Chinese foods, I would like to recommend this place if you are looking for good Malay food

JM BARIANI HOUSE started rather quietly in the early 1980s when Jamilah and her husband Mustapa decided to start a food catering business.

The couple from Muar set up a kitchen in SS18 Subang Jaya and soon discovered their friends and other Johor folk were requesting for their bariani more regularly. JM Bariani House opened in 1995 to cater to this need.

Since then, it has become a hub in the KL-PJ area for genuine Johor bariani and other southern Malay specialities. Today, the couple in their sixties has left the running of the business to three sons who are equally passionate about Johor food.

It is always good to known there are places like JM that take pride in preserving old recipes and keeping the Malaysian culinary heritage alive.

Specialities

* Bariani gam (chicken and mutton) -- in this house speciality, the meats are cooked together with the spiced rice; available on Wednesday and Saturday only
* Nasi bariani served with chicken, mutton or beef curry accompanied by (1) a salad of sliced pineapples, cucumber and onions and (2) a light brinjal and vegetable curry
* Mee bandung -- noodles with prawns, tofu, sliced beef, egg and taugeh cooked in a thick gravy based on beef stock, dried prawns and a host of spices
