Jalan Kayu Roti Prata @ Singapore

Friday, December 15, 2006

Since my friends are going to Singapore, I am thinking of posting some Singapore makan places. Roti Prata at Jalan Kayu in Singapore is very famous and ood.

Jalan Kayu .A sleepy residential area off Yio Chu Kang, this area is synonymous with roti prata - crispy Indian griddle-fried bread served plain or with fillings such as onion, mutton, chicken, sardine, cheese or egg, and accompanied by a dish of chicken or fish curry.

Once accessible only to residents in the area or hard-core prata fans willing to make the drive to this northern part of Singapore, Jalan Kayu is now served by the Light Rail System (the nearest station is Sengkang West's Thanggam station).

For the uninitiated, pratas also consist of varieties containing banana, chocolate, cheese and garlic. Thasevi Food Eating House (237/ 239 Jalan Kayu Tel: 6481 8941) prides its pratas as being the ‘Established Roti Prata Since 1960’ and ‘Best Awarded Roti Prata’, but our advice is to come, taste, and make your own decision; its neighbours like Famous Jalan Kayu Roti Prata Shop (258 Jalan Kayu, Tel: 6481 2009) and Jalan Kayu Prata Shop (235 Jalan Kayu) also enjoy a huge following, evident from the crowds they draw respectively.
