TV8 Ho Chak today show recommended two porridge shops, one Cantonese Porridge, Kedai Hon Kee (opposite Hong Leong Bank along Jalan Hang Lekir in KL) Chinatown.and the other Teo Chew Porridge @ Cheras, Restaurant Makan Teochew.

Hon Kee has been reviewed by many food reviews as a great place for porridge. It has a 60 years history and now in its 3rd generation.

Herbert Wong, a third generation owner, says his family started the stall in 1945.


An engineering graduate who worked in Singapore, he left his job in the city state to help his family run the business in Kuala Lumpur.

Since Hon Kee opens from 4.30am till 1.30pm, Herbert’s “work day” starts at 12 midnight. It takes about four to five hours to cook each pot of porridge.

Rice porridge with:

· Sliced fish (Sang Yee)

· Pork meat balls

· Shredded chicken

· Century eggs

· Sliced internal organs of pigs like liver, heart and intestines
