Colourful Life of Sg Lembing

Saturday, March 31, 2007

Kampung Ku (My Hometown) , Sg. Lembing is a small little town in Pahang where I grown up before I moved to Kuantan to study Upper Secondary school @ Sultan Abu Bakar School.

When the world tin prices dropped due to US stockpile, the world deepest load mine have got to close. In 60 & 70s, this town was a hive of activities. It even has a duty free shop. But after the tin mine closure, most of the residents move down to Kuantan,

The town is now the jurisdiction of Majlis Perbandaran Kuantan( MPK) - Kuantan Municipal Council. The Pahang State government planned to turn it into a tourist attractions and have turned the old bungalow of the Tin Mine Manager into a Museum highlighting the tin mining
industry. The old food courts have been torned town recently to make way for a new food court centre.

Nearby Sg Lembing is Bukit Panorama, which is a popular place to watch the sunrise. 16 km from Sg. Lembing is Gunung Tapis Nature Park, where one can camp, fish, and shoot the rapids. Gunung Tapis itself is 1,512 m high. On the way to Sg. Lembing is Gua Charas, a temple cave that is a popular tourist destination, also Sungai Pandan Waterfall, which is 29 km from Kuantan.

Below are some of the pictures taken today when I went back for Qing Ming which showed there is still much life there. Very colourful indeed. Good foods, great views, cool and plenty of fresh air. It remind me of my childhood days.
