CNY Loh Sang
Friday, February 08, 2008After all the visits, it is almost 7.15pm, we were looking for a place to eat but most of the restaurants were closed and I checked out Aman Suria, Sunwaymas , Taman Megah and finally I found Restaurant Sam Yu @ SS 3 open for business. As we were still quite full, we ordered just 6 simple dishes.
For Malaysian Chinese, all New Year feasts start with the ubiquitous yee sang, a dish peculiar only to this region. I remember how some friends from Hong Kong were stumped when asked to partake in the loh sang (tossing) ritual. Yee sang is a salad dish of raw fish, finely shredded carrots, turnips with pomelo, pickles and crisps tossed with a piquant plum dressing. Diners do the tossing at the table, loudly shouting "loh hei, loh hei" to indicate success and liveliness.
Yee Sang, a must during CNY lunch or dinner.

Loh Hei for a better year ahead and happiness to everyone.
Sweet and Sour Pork.
Special Tau foo.
Herbal chicken.
Vegetables curry.
Plain fried Yau mak.
For six dishes, the bill for foods and a pot of King Tea came up to RM165.00 which is on the high side but since it is 1st day of CNY, they could have charged an additional surcharge.
