Ketap Pass to View Mt Merapi

Monday, May 19, 2008

Merapi is one of some 500 volcanoes in Indonesia, at least 129 of which are considered active. It lies in one of Indonesia's most densely populated regions, and is only a few kilometres from the ancient city of Yogyakarta, an area now home to three million people. Indonesia is near the "Ring of Fire" - teh circle around Pacific Ocean on which lie most of the world's active volcanoes above sea level.

PhotobucketWARNING: As of May 2006, Mt Merapi has started to erupt, with a reported "lava flow" (probably NOT a "pyroclastic flow," a different, highly dangerous volcanic phenomenon -- the danger from this particular volcano has yet to begin). Nearby residents have been evacuated, and travelers should steer clear.

We had the most beautiful view point spot at KETEP PASS while enjoying the beauty of Merapi Volcano as one of the five most active volcanoes in the world. We really enjoyed the Fresh Air and Cool Temparature up there. We did not had the chance to watch the Volcano Eruption show at the Volcano Theathre as it required a min of 10pax before the show will begin.
